I’ve decided to make my own Bokashi composter. I have a few extra plastic bins hanging around, and surely one or two of them will be sufficient to the task. After researching online how to make my own, I decided to keep it simple. I am going to go with the two-tub method: the inner container has holes punched/drilled into the bottom for the liquid to drain out; the outer container just holds the liquid. I’d like to make one with the spigot and such, but maybe I’d better see if I can make it first before a spigot, caulking and miscellaneous bits.
Here are the two tubs that I’ll use. Dirty hey? Probably wouldn’t matter, but I’m going to clean them up a bit first.

All tidy! Now I must make the holes. Yay for the power drill!! I just made random holes.

Place holy tub inside of non-holey tub.
Then sprinkle bokashi bran. I ran to our local eco store Earth’s General Store this morning to pick some up. It was $8 Canadian.

Put in some foodstuffs. Sprinkle more bran. You can see that I have veggies and some shrimp. Might as well test out the “include everything vegetable and animal” instructions first thing.

I have an old plate that I will put on the top of the food to compact it and limit the amount of air available. And Voila! I’ve started my own Bokashi composter!

Next challenge – making my own innoculant/bokashi bran.
